Hi,

We have a 2 gang 2 way dimmer one controls the dining room, the other controls the living room. (Big large room)

It worked fine when installed at the beginning of the year, but the living room one has not stopped working as a dimmer. It now just turns on and off. The dining room one is perfectly fine.

Both lights are the same and have the same bulbs (G9).

So i thought it must be the dimmer switch itself so replaced the dimmer switch and got the same issue.

The are 6 wires at the switch, 3 for each switch (red, black, earth)

Could it actually be the light itself?

And advice would be very helpful.

Sometimes when the lamps fail, the dimmers can fail too. Often, they fail altogether, in other words the dimmer fails to switch on the light but sometimes the dimmer will work as a switch, but not as a dimmer.

But to replace the dimmer and report the same symptoms is odd.

It is the correct type and rating for the load?

try a standard rocker switch on the lights, if it works then we can suspect the dimmer. As above the must be rated within the manufacturer's wattage range. There will likely be a minimum and maximum watt rating printed on the dimmer.

Thanks, will try a rocker switch.

Also will try flipping the dining room and living room around to see if that will help.

Not sure of the wattage atm of the one there (old) but the new one is 400w.

The bulbs are 28w G9 and 8 bulbs to the full light.
