Dimmer switch

A Dimmer switch I have fitted in my son's bedroom buzzes at the same level of noise when on at what ever setting. The Switch is a 1-Switch 2-way one, yet I fitted it to act as a 1-way. Is the buzzing safe? Is this fitting OK or does one definitely have to have another switch in the bedroom or fit a 1 way unit?

what is the wattage rating of the dimmer?

what rating of lighting is it controlling?

what type of lighting is it controlling? (eg. low volt? halogen? normal 60w bulb?)

where did you purchase said dimmer and how much did it cost?
