Can anyone advise on the correct set up for the dimplex rxpw4n heating controls if you just want the zones to be working on the timer? My daughter has just moved into a rented property and although the instructions seem to show the heating is on timed...its coming on at random times during the night and shes racking up an extortionate bill.... can post a pic of her control screen as it's set up if anyone thinks they may be able to help

They can be a pain, I set one up a couple of years ago for a friend who couldn't master it. Primarily because the unit was in the kitchen under a cupboard and the time setting display was difficult for her to read.

For me, the best way to proceed was to perform a reset that returns it to the factory settings. You say you have the instructions, and they will tell you how to do this. That will get rid of the previous occupiers "random times" and give a clean sheet for your daughter to enter the times she wants to have it on for.

Unfortunately with electric heating the standard rate costs about three times that of mains gas, and twice the cost of oil, so it won't be cheap to run. This type of heating is usually installed in extremely well insulated properties that don't need a lot of energy to keep warm. Landlords like it because they don't pay the energy bill and it doesn't need servicing.

If your daughter happens to be on an 'off peak tariff' make the best use of that and have the heaters on to correspond to the same times as the cheaper rate, which may explain why the heaters presently come on during the night. Some suppliers offer an afternoon 'off peak tariff' for a couple of hours.

Also make sure that the heaters are in auto and have not been left on a manual setting.

Thanks for the reply....think she checked the heaters themselves ...they were set on number 5 but not sure if they also have an auto setting?? Shes turned them down anyway...the times all seem ok for the heating to be on and off at...said it took them about an hour to program ! Not sure if it's something to do with the "comfort" and "economy" setting ...currently on comfort but cant make head or tail of the instructions telling about the difference ...
