I have set up my Gosford fire, following the instructions and double checking with the online manual. Thoroughly disappointed. I cannot see any flames above the logs only between the logs, so more a movement than anything else. I have had the fire on high mist/flame and the lowest setting with minimal mist. On high the mist fully fills the fire and it just looks like it full of smoke so the door has to be open condensation too. Having done much research and looked at a lot of online videos of the fire, they all have leaping flames. So my question is, is there something wrong with the fire as very poor flame effect.

I assure you my post is most certainly not a 'wind up', but very much a disappointment.

I looked at these when we were looking for something that, vaguely, resembled an open coal fire without the mess. They are nearly as expensive as a stinking messy woodburner and the effect and the flame/smoke effect is complete rubbish. We opted for an open flame, coal effect, inset gas fire eventually. Nearly as good as traditional coal fire but without the mess.

You are correct that all the videos show a good Yellow flame.
But whenever I have seen these, they are a white mist, with a red/yellow bulb shining on them.
I guess that they look better in darkness (and many videos are very dark surroundings) so the effect of the red/yellow bulb is maximised, but I feel that normal room lighting reduces them back to white mist.
So items I would check are, are the illuminating lights working properly? Is the fan that drives the mist working properly?
