It's what you wrapped around the cast iron pipe when pouring the moulton lead after caulking with tarrred twine.

What annoys me is that if I were a plumber I would fill the bath and drain it before I left the site. I'm going to phone round the plumbers merchants to see if there is an adaptor available to join the cast iron pipe to the plastic pipe. PS the cast iron pipe in the wall was put in when the house was built in the 1950s.

PS. The cast iron pipe is right in the way and goes outside. Also the bath is taking approximately 20 mins to empty now.
