Hi,
I have a megaflo system installed and I noticed that often when the water is being heated (& I guess the pressure is rising in the cyclinder) I see a reasonable amount of flow from the discharge pipe.

So is this normal or is this a sign of something going wrong with the system?

Would this have anything to do with the incoming pressure?

Any help anyone can give on this will be appreciated

Cheers
Dan

Could simply be the air bubble needs re-pressurising, or tpr valve faulty, or it could be over pressurising.

Follow MI's on how to re-pressurise air bubble first.

Anything else will need a G3 registered installer to work on it.

Thanks Dave,

I understand about pressurising the air bubble , and I have done that but can this cause the over pressurising?

I've set this fairly high but reading about this on a few web sites it looks like I should not exceed 3 bar, is this right?

Back to my original question though I assume you are suggesting that I really should not see much in the way of any discharge when the system is setup correctly?

Note I saw on the technical spec's where the tpr is located so like you say to replace this would need to get a qualified person but I'm hoping this is not necessary...

Thanks
Dan

do you have any information regarding the temp of this water that is discharging?

From this statement it sounds like you are adjusting your heating system pressure and not re-establishing the internal air bubble in your megaflow. There is a big sticker on the side of tank which explains how to do it in a few simple steps, thats assuming the sticker is visable.

Yes, this is a classic MEGAFLO airgap problem by the sound of it.

Can anyone remind me what the advantages of a Baxi Megaflo are? Don't recall any, I just can't understand their popularity with the public.

Their credit rating is junk too, according to today's Sunday Times.

Simon, by refering to a Baxi Megaflo you are crossing over to their system boiler range.

The megaflo in question is the Heatrae Megaflo, always has been, always will be, regardless of who the mother company is

WHen there's no air in the "bubble" at the top of the cylinder, the water has nowhere to go when it expands. So the pressure rapidly rises and opens the relief valve. Once they've been letting water out for a while, they tend not to shut properly. The rubber "washer" and the brass seat both wear away.

Yes Chris I agree but it could a failed thermostat and thats what Im concerned about :?
