I need to disconnect a light in my hall & amke the cable safe. I will not be reconnecting anything to this cable, in fact it will be hidden behind the wall when I redecorate. How do I go about ensuring the cable is safe?

so its a wall light??? is there a ceiling light also? it may be fed from this if there is a ceiling light. is it switched from a wall switch.

If its a wall light then you must go back to the source of supply and disconnect it there. (maybe at the switch, or somewhere else.

You must not leave a live cable in a wall and cover it over, someone in the future may hammer in a nail and kill themselves.

Now I come to think of it, the abve advice goes for anything including a ceiling light. You must disconnect the supply and make it safe.
