what we need is an MCB version to replace the BS1362 ie spur unit with breaker :)
 
Spur unit with adjustable breaker - one product would then fit all applications.

yes it is the standards bodies should know that in a lot of applications there will be a fuse downstream. Given that why weren't the breakers designed to offer proper discrimination with fuses downstream?!

They are.

There is always a breaker that you can use which will give you the discrimination that you need with downstream fuses.

What would be a problem, and would be insane, would be to deliberately design MCBs whose characteristics were no better than fuses....
