Dishwasher - how much salt is too much

I’ve got an integrated LAMONA slim Dishwasher.
It’s about a year old but I’ve only been using it for maybe two months.
I now use it once a day and as I live in a very hard water area; the machine is set to five (highest).
I’m getting through about a kilogram of salt in less than a week; every five maybe six days.
The reservoir lid seats firmly and is not damaged.

I called ‘LAMONA’ and they offered to send someone to look at it as it’s still under warranty.
Before I go this route (and pull it out for inspection) - is the salt usage excessive ?

Thanks D

Thanks reply @Wayners.
So I may well have a fault with it - doh!
I was really hoping not to drag it out.
Anything I could try/check before I call LAMONA.

I just looked up instructions and you need to put 1L of water in before you add salt.
Then add 2kg of salt. Check instructions though.
I'd measure out so you know it's all going in to spec. That's a lot of salt to use in a week

That’s interesting @flameport. The instructions say #5 if a hard water area and my water report gives my Total Water Hardness as 285 mg/l. The recognised classifications are: 0-75 soft, 76-150 moderately hard, 151-300 hard, 300+ very hard. So I’m right at the top end of hard. I could dial it back to #3 but will that be sufficient ?

Thanks D

Try it. All that will happen if it's not enough is that you might see some white scale residue on glassware after a few washes.

The setting just changes how often the resin is regenerated using the salt. Too often just wastes salt and water.

Thanks again @flameport.
I was hesitant with lower settings because I’ve seen what our water does to the taps and kettle.
I thought the higher settings might prolong the life of the dishwasher.
I’ll give it a try.

I live in a modatratiy hard to hard water area..
We used Calgon in the washing machine but I dont worry about dishwasher, although I have used a cleaner which will descale about 5 years ago.
It's about 10 years old.
I don't have a salt setting on it though but if I did I'd set to half way or less.
Dishwasher tabs have salt in but instructions say to use salt as well if used in a hard water area.

I’ll have a fiddle with the settings; the programmed wash and the tablets to see if it makes much difference.
I checked my warranty and I’m just over one year into a three year warranty - so that’s good.
If I see no improvement I’ll get an engineer visit booked.
LAMONA don’t have any Tech Support - it’s an engineer’s visit or nothing.

I bought this model of D/W because it integrated nicely.
Our kick-boards are a bit like skirting; there’s no toe gap they fit flush.
The LAMONA was the only one that didn’t need any setting back of the kick board to clear the door.
That said; it’s going to be a PITA to get out.

Thanks advice
