We have cream ceramic floor tiles in the bathroom but they were laid with black grout, which neither of us likes. Hubby wants me to lift & relay tiles but realistically can I just regrout?

To put it simply " yes " you can. It can and is a painstakingly tedious job when done correctly, you have to remove all the old grout, then re-grout your floor
There are tile fixers like myself who offer this service and can do it correctly and in a fraction of the time it would take a D.I.Yer.
Thanks but living in the middle of nowhere tends to be difficult for tradesmen.
Anyway bit the bullet, bought a Bosch multitool & have successfully removed all the grout!!
Now just need to regrout!

well done, the tool i use is the fein multi master, the bosch does the same job
