Distance of Consumer unit from meter

Hi,

I am going to get my CU moved from its current location (tight against the kitchen ceiling in a boxed section above kitchen units) to a more suitable location in the under stairs cupboard at a height around 1400mm. The disctance from the meter to the new CU will be about 5-6m with the tails running under floor boards. I'm presuming there will be a requirement/regulations to protect the tails as they now run under the floor boards. What are the best options for this, RCD at meter or armoured 25mm cable etc? I know it will be the sparks final decision but I would like to know the current regs before he comes round to have a look.

Switchfuse at the meter, armoured cable from that to the new consumer unit.

if an rcd is fitted, it needs to be a time delayed one

That wouldn't always help (e.g. in the case of N-E faults on final circuits) if the downstream RCDs/RCBOs were SP.
