DIY Jacuzzi

I'm really sorry if this is in the wrong place but I have no idea where it should go. Gardening ? Plumbing ? Electric ? Well, it's going to be in the garden, it involves water & it needs to have electricity to work. Anyway, when I was very young my dad enlarged the pond we had & turned it into a jacuzzi. We have just moved into a new house & I would like to do the same however my dad has since passed away & I have no idea who to ask as to how to go about this. Can anyone help or recommend any books please ?

Nope, no fish. Pond is now empty coz we don't do fish but definitely DO DO jacuzzi's !

What bits do you plan to make yourself?

Given that the market for spas/jacuzzis in this country is very small (growing, I agree, but they are still a rare thing to own), I'd be very surprised if there were DIY-market suppliers of all the bits & pieces that you'd need to build your own.

Good luck, but you might be better off contacting companies that actually make jacuzzis and seeing if they could do a custom one to fit your old pond...

i would agree with others, pond liner is not ideal for making jacuzi, try a specialist shop they are usually very helpful

Well, although I was only 10 when my dad converted our pond back home (and bear in mind I'm a girl so I'm pretty clueless about such matters), I remember him taking out the lining, using concrete to make the corners & edges rounder & making "seats" & then covering it all with layer upon layer of wet fiberglass mesh. Have no idea how he got the bubbles in but I know he had a pump that he switched on. I heard there was a bloke in Romsey (Hants) who did something similar but that was only because a friend of a friend went to a birthday party there a few years ago & spent time in his home-made jacuzzi. She reckons it was far better than the fitted ones you get & cost him a fraction of the cost - apparently £850.00 in 2000.

Water conditioning/sanitising?

Ease of emptying to change the water?

i'd say you'd be better of just buying one, they'd probably be easier to maintain. we happen to own one, and the complexity of it is extreme, including things like an Ozone filter to kill bacteria.

on a safety note the chemicals used in hottubs, like the Ozone stuff is very nasty indeed!

Also what would you do about a filtration system? and heating?

ah, now we are getting there, your dad simply "fibre glassed" ther pond and probably added a pump with a "venturi" nozzle

i dont suppose the thought of sanitisation ever crossed his mind probably looked at it as a bath.

as has already been said, you will be better off buying a jacuzzi than trying to make one
