This is the tip of the iceberg of what we found at this guys house. He now has a council carer who was a bit worried by some of the electrics. He should have been more concerned by the gas installation. I called the gas emergency line and they said there were several leaks and to quote "the boiler is pi$$ing out CO2" Probably why the old boys health has gone down hill rapidly in the last year.

Cue for RF to post his picture of alarm cable used for 230V...

I don't want to do too many case the customer gets wind of it, I might ask them to sign a photography waiver....

We have found four types of cable under the floor that are part of the socket "circuit"; one of them is golden

When i've ran cat5/6 for people in their homes i'm amazed by what I find under the floor and i've probably created enough work for electricians to keep a few in beer for a year when you pull up the floorboard and find the socket is spur'd from a double thats done in 1.5mm using iron leads connected by choc blocks and for some reason they seem to think I can fix it (best bones from startrek voice : i'm a IT guy dammit Jim not an electrician)

It's why my multimeter (for testing fuses/powercables) and insulated screwdrivers (prefer the feel) are normally hidden at the bottom of my tool bag as otherwise they think i'm a spark and it goes downhill once I show them the problems

Wouldn't suprise me if the main bonding is done in cat 5  (but more likely non-existant)

Non existing.

We are doing a luxury wire upgrade - this consists of taking all the old wire down to the weigh bridge and putting all new ones in. Plus a boiler and 8 radiators.
