Do electronic mouse/rat repellers work

Hi

Do these devices like the Pest-Stop Pestclear 3000 Professional (for larger properties) actually work against rats/mice or is it a gimmick?

According to my mate they do. She lives in a very old (12th century or something) thatched cottage and had rats in the walls ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. She didn't want anything that would kill them and leave them to rot so her hubby bought a few of these type of things - don't think he paid that much though!

They ended up with one in every room and after a few days no more noise, no more scratching and no more rats
