Do I need a garage lintel Q

Hi,

We are 'upgrading' a stand alone wooden carport to something a little more robust with a sectional garage door , similar in design to this

My lintel Q is looking at the RHS. When I say robust this means cavity brick walls on the garage walls with a sectional garage door at the front, its 4m wide inside and has a low roof i.e no rooms above, not enough room for storage.

We have a very low roof sitting directly onto 2 piers. Lightweight, no room above etc. lower than in the image above.

A garage door will be as wide as we can, maybe 3m

The sectional garage door secures to the piers and needs headroom 210mm.

I just assumed we needed a lintel but then thought "do we ?" and thats my question.

With no brickwork above is there any need for a lintel ? Have I missed something? The only thing bricks above it would do is reduce head height. The garage door doesn't need a lintel, I'm checking if the roof trusses do.

So the door has a (small) gable above it, like in the pic? What’s the gable made of? If it’s just some cladding, then yeah just frame it in timber. If it’s masonry, it’d need to sit on some kind of lintel…

yes just wood. with cladding.

A picture of the actual thing would be helpful but by the sound of things you don't if you just infill the gap over the door with lighttweight cladding.
