Do I need permission to block pave an existing gravel drive way with Marshall blocks? Its 100m2.

We will be putting drainage gulley in to connect to existing drain.

Any help appreciated.

You would technically need Planning Permission as you are not draining the water into the ground on your property. http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/england/public/buildingwork/projects/workcommonpaving/ You cannot lawfully drain into the existing foul or surface water drains without Permission from Building Control. You can drain it into a soakaway but these need to be minimum distances from buildings and roadways so unless you're gardens huge that's probably not possible.

If you can get the water to drain onto your own property eg with a slight fall down to either side of the drive for then no need for PP.

Permeable paving is great in theory but will clog up in a few years.

Or just join into the mains but beware as you may get a nasty letter through the door from the Planners.............
