Replacing an very old metal downlight in the ceiling with a new LED one. In the roof space all wires go via junction box before a 2 core flex connected to the old downlight. Obviously the new LED downlight has a three connections. Do I need now need to replace the 2 core flex with three core to give me an earth or am ok just wiring up the next LED light to the existing 2 core cable? Help much appreciated.

Looks like it as it appears to have an earth wire to the light itself.
Don't know why it is not under the clamp with the other two wires.

Were there no instructions with the light?

BS7671 regulation 411.3.1.1:
A circuit protective conductor shall be run to and terminated at each point in wiring and at each accessory except a lampholder having no exposed-conductive-parts and suspended from such a point.

I am surprised the earth wire on your new fitting isn't heavily identified as green or yellow, or earth.

Hopefully you have an earth connection in that ceiling rose which is pretending to be a junction box.

The CPC on the fitting appears to be sheathed in yellow/ green ,or at least yellow, but then over sleeved in black heat resistant. You can just see where it enters the terminal block.

It looks like you'd be better off replacing that rose with a proper junction box, and then running a short piece of 3-core to the new light fitting.
