Anyone else had this?

I was called to a leaking boiler a good distance from home as it was an emergency and the installer who fitted it couldn't get back to it for a few days during a recent cold spell.

When I looked underneath it turned out to be the magnaclean that was leaking. It was as if the head had popped off its threads.

When I looked at the base of the magnet the protective stainless case had ripped open causing the core to expand and push the magnet at an angle with enough force to rip the head off its threads.

As the job was far from home I snapped the magnet off so I could get the thing back together and advised the householder to take it up with the installer and/or magnaclean. Goods not fit for their purpose n all that.

Its boiler buddy's for me from now on

Don't be stupid that's one in a million, the ease of service of magnacleans far outweighs this one small insident.

One of mine had the iso valves on his magnaclean leak after year one. Fortunately he bought his own on ebay so I was off the hook. I have never had a leaker. Could it be possible seconds are finding their way out the back door? Buy from reputable dealers and take them back. So many things we fit for people have to be changed, merchants never bat an eyelid. What's your real beef, work for Fernox?

I have it on very good authority (from Magnaclean) that the Magnacleans on Ebay are perfectly good quality but from an illegal source.

I suspect the Fernox product will come back to haunt many installers/homeowners, have a look at the maximum long term operating temperatures of clear plastics.

If the Magnaclean problem occurred exactly as you described, I suggest you contact Magnaclean directly. Chris Adey is always VERY keen to listen to reports and suggestion about the product. Call 01242233702 on a weekday.

As in they are genuine magnacleans, but off the back of a lorry?? Doesn't that apply to most gear on ebay, lol.

I bought one last week and it had the serial number underneath and was the new round bottom style.

I assume that you mean that they are being stolen by the sellers from their employers like British Gas and the merchants?

I didnt know that it was one in a million! Thats why I made the post.

As the majority of my work is repairs for landlords I have only come across 4 magnacleans one of which I fitted myself and had problems with 2 of them. Statistically I see 500,000 in a million that have problems.
You obviously see more of them than I do so I thank you for bringing my views into perspective.

I live in a town which is officially the UK's worst place to live. Although I do try to promote these magnetic devices, on the few occasions I should be fitting them I find most people round here simply wont spare their precious fag/beer/bingo money on what they see as an overpriced magnet.

I wonder if the homeowner might have dropped it?

Homeowner didnt know what it was or that it even existed until I told them.

I twigged what was going on when I couldnt re-assemble it and saw that it was out of skew when the cap wouldn't go back on.

A smart tap with a hammer broke the shaft at the line of the fault
