Just bought a new ceiling lamp & it only has 2 wires Brown & Blue, so no earth, out of the ceiling is 2 red 2 black & a earth. I've wired the reds to brown and blacks to blue, should I use the earth wire and attach it to the fixing screw on the metal ceiling rose? or does it not need an earth?
Thanks Simon

What do the instructions say?

Is there an earth terminal or wire on the fitting?

Is there a double insulated mark on the fitting (a square within a square)?

You should follow the manufacturers instructions regarding the earth.
If they state there is no need for an earth then put it in a connector block and tape it up.
However, I am concerned that your two reds and two blacks wiring arrangement as you have described may cause you problems.
Unless this light unit is part of the circuit that also lights another light from the same switch then you have wired this light incorrectly.

Assuming that this is the only light operated by the switch and it is the end of the lighting circuit (normally associated with two sets of conductors) then you need to establish which of the two black conductors is your switch live and which one is your neutral.
Do either of the black conductors have a red sleeve or tape on them?

Hi
No instructions, with regards to the wiring I basically took the old light off & installed the new one, minus a earth from the new light. No earth terminal or wire on the new light.
