Hello again,

i have a new light that i would like to install,

out of the ceiling there is black wire, blue wire, earth wire and red wire

on the light itself there is blue, earth and brown.

now on the instructions it says

neutral blue or black needs to go to blue sleeved cable

earth loop to earth obviously

switch wire which is blue with brown sheathing or black with red sheathing to brown on the light but this cable is non existent from the ceiling

red wire to (no connection on light)

so i connected black from ceiling to blue

earth from ceiling to earth on light

switch wire which is blue brown or black with red sheathing which doesnt exist is supposed to go to brown

and red to no connection on the light so its on its own or should red go to the brown

thanks.

Red, Black, Blue and earth are unusual colours.
Are you sure they are not Brown, Black, Grey and earth?

How was it wired when you removed the previous light?

Was there a light up before and did it work?

Are the black, red and earth grouped in one cable and (if so) is the blue not within another cable?

It might be easier if you upload a photo.

My mistake guys from the ceiling there is 3 wires please see the drawing this is how its wired i presume i need to move the red to brown ? but not what instructions say ???

this how i wired it

Yeh thats what i thought but instructions say different, weird but i will try it.

thanks.

The terminals are

N Neutral
E Earth
S Switched Live
L Live

The Live is used when the fitting is also the junction between a cable bringing un-switched power and a second cable taking Live to the switch and bringing Switched Live back from the switch. In your case the jucntion is else where and hence the L terminal is not needed.

Ok so the red from the ceiling needs to go to brown switched live on the light.

Well, yes.

You (now) have three wires from the ceiling and three wires from the light. What else could it be?

How would you expect this to work?

It doesn't really say that, does it?
