Are you old enough to remember the amount of tension caused by Russia having a very large and threatening army in a whole slew of countries in eastern Europe which were forcefully occupied after WWII and kept in a state of control and subservience for 45 years thereafter? I feel that maybe you think that was acceptable - maybe to you it was, but to the vast majority of people living in eastern Europe it wasn't, but when you are occupied by a massive army with an equally large police state to back them there is little you can do to oppose it. That's why there were defections from the east to the west all the time - I can't recall there being that many the other way. You are placing the "blame" blindly on the West, but the reality is that many people in eastern Europe wanted economic growth, greater democracy and greater choice after nearly half a century of Russian domination, economic stagnation and lack of choice. The same is certainly true of Ukraine which has been trying to get away from Russia's domination for more than 100 years

When did Russia? The current conflict in Ukraine, and their behaviour over Chechnya, South Osetia, Transnistria, etc is proof of that

So? I never said HMG were clean in this or any other respect, however Gaddafi funded Fatah, Abu Nidal, Black September (which he formed - remember 1972 Munich?), the Black Panthers, the Provisional IRA, etc and he was responsible for the Pan Am Lockerbie bombing. So maybe he was a wee bit more divisive - and sooner or later somebody was going to remove him, if not the west, then one of his own
