I've booked a plasterer to plaster several rooms in my house
Bedrooms, liveing room and dineing room, he wants to dryline all the walls
And says he will use the 9.5 thickness plasterboards
Will this be ok, or should I ask him to use the thicker 12 mm boards
I should I ask for the old style wet plaster, its just a normal 3 bed semi
Advice is most welcome ............ Thx

I'd never use 9.5 boards except perhaps overboarding or where you need to get a margin on a frame or something.

Not good enough for dot and dab, not good enough for tacking.

I'd prefer the hardwall and set myself.

I'd ask him his reasons for wanting 9.5 and think carefully about his answer

Edit 12.5 fine for stickingor tacking with suitable centres

Seems a little strange that to me that he would choose to dryline over plaster been as its only 2 rooms . From my experience drylining is normally done in bigger areas so you have more to carry on with while previously applied filler is setting ready to sand down.
Personally i would prefer it plastered as it gives more protection on your plaster board, but that's just a preference.
As for 9.5 plaster boards, i rarely use them but in certain situations there fine and will make no difference to you. If your walls are being dot'n'dabbed then 12.5 would be better as 9.5's have to much flex.

Hope this helps

im afraid that im inclined to say he does not know how to plaster, this is whats killing our trade chancers comeing in and doin a half job and putting proper plasterers out of a job, if your goin to dab you want 12.5mm boards and you want a proper skim coat not a tape an joint jobby.
a skim coat is more durable and hardy to knocks than tape anf joint, sorry mate but in my opinion he does not know how to do it properly and if he does hes trying to make a quick buck out of you.
but thats just my opinion mate

he wants to dryline the walls............. do they need doing?
if so why use 9.5mm when you have 12.5 available, if your unsure go to nearest B&Q and feel the flex in them both and compare.

is he a recommended "plasterer" id get 3 quotes always and dont always accept the cheaper quote :)
