Hello Experts,
I am renovating a property and am cutting out a single skin wall to take a new door opening. the old plaster has been removed off all the walls to be replastered later. With the hole cut i want to fit a door lining, and im not sure how thick the door lining should be? how much overhang should there be on each side of the brickwork as its going to be hardwall plastered. Any help?

for standard float & set plastering 20mm proud each side should deal with any irregularities, so the casing needs to be 40mm wider than the wall.

for dot & dab have the casing 50mm wider than the wall.

if you are likely to run any pipes or a cluster of wires down the wall, close to the casing, then maybe you need to allow a little bit more.

Many Thanks, i will probably be looking at 5 3/4 - 6 inchs then, i may have to make my own casings but will have a ring around to see if that size is available. :D
