Any of you chaps used door entry kits before...
Just a bog standard 1 way kit, with telephone handset and electric lock release.
Are they difficult to install?
Are they compatible with easy-opened-door systems?

cheers

follow instrcutions on box, they are a peice of cake (well actually its some wires, electronics and a hand set)

before you do anything make sure you have right type of door release and that it will fit.

standard "yale" type lock not a problem

If the lock is a problem, you can get magnetic releases. These fail open though if no back up power is available.

fraid not, you appear to be refering to a "mag lock" these require power to hold the door shut, no power, door is released, they are very common, it is a health and saftey issue.

that said there are two types of "yale type" door release;

fail safe which neds a voltage to keep the door locked

fail secure which needs a voltage to release the door

in the kits you usually get fail secure

the pic below is 2 mag locks and one plate that goes on the door

the pic below this is "normal" door release with yale lock

So for an easy open door (EOD per the fire officer) a fail safe door release is required?

yes. but "fire people" prefer maglocks, with a manual door release, similar to the one below

emergency_door_release_mcp_large.jpg

it is wired in series with the maglock, and just breaks the supply.

you can adapt a maglcok to work with a door entry system, but you need a separate power supply for the maglock and a relay to interface with the door entry kit

Surely a door with a handle to open it from the inside would suffice as in your picture "normal door relase with yale lock". So, if the power fails the door can be opened manually from the inside.

would this meet the requirements?
