Door handle moves but door not opening

Don't know how I'm going to open this unless I saw around the handle.

Could you not get a couple of screwdrivers and work the bolt? back, looks like a nice big gap.

Or take the plate and handle off and pop a screwdriver in the hole which should be square.

Thanks but I threaded some sturdy wire through and dragged the latch open.

Time to replace those ancient budget handles/latches.
