Dormer Extension

My builder has just completed a dormer extension at mine, this is clad in HardiePlank but has lead strips under the two UPVC windows which he calls Lead Aprons. They look pretty awful but he said they have to stay as they are the correct detail, even though none of the other houses in the street have these.
Any advice would be great.
