Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me with wiring a double gang switch to operate two separate lights. I have what was two separate rooms but now knocked through into one big room. My front room and back room downstairs. They both had there own lights obviously .

At the moment they are wired as follows:

Two separate three core wires coming into a double gang switch.

There is red going into com on the first switch and black going to L1

There is red going to com on the second switch and black going to L2

There's is also a small piece of wire going from L2 on the first switch to L1 on the second switch

At the moment I can have one light on while the other is off.

How can I wire this so I can have both lights working independently.

Thanks for any help that comes my way

Yeh I tried that but only one light comes on in the front room.

I would like it so I can have both lights on or off or one on and one off.

Duff switch ???
Is that why someone has done what they have with the wiring?

Remove the small piece of wire

Put the black of the back room switch in the other L terminal.
Does it work but upside down?

Thanks for the replys EFImpudence.

I don't think the switch is a duffer!

I actually have it like that at the minute but only the front room light is on.

I have no idea which is the black from the back room.

If I bridged the coms would that work ?

It looks like its just used to extend the neutral from the back room.
It should go to the light.

It's not a neutral.
Neutral is the name of the conductor which completes the circuit from the load back to the electrical source.
It is not a name for any black (or blue now) wire.
Wires can be anything we want; they do not know what colour they are.

My mistake, the connector is just extending the black from the back room. Someone cut it to short.

Are you are sure it is connected properly?

Try bridging the COMs. It's not a solution but may help identify the fault.

Ok i will bridge them and report back, where should the black cables be going at this point ?

Thanks

I've swapped the connector to make sure it was OK.

How its wired at the moment I have permanent light in the back and the front room light can be switched on and off lol.
