Double glazing supply and fit

Apologies if this isn’t allowed but can anyone recommend a good, reliable firm to supply and fit double glazing in Scotland, that covers the Tayside area please?

I’ve had three quotes - first one was an ass and his quote consisted of “you won’t get any change out of 19 grand”, second one quoted £8350 and I had a well known company out today that quoted me £17,400.

It’s for 10 windows if that’s any help.

10 windows at £650 a windows is middle ground imo.
Depends on size and how easy they are to fit.
I had 2 windows fitted 2 years ago for £1200.
One large and one medium sized.
You can look online at the cost of windows.
Some companies have websites you put in what type and size and you can get a supply only price or a supply and fit price.

Other than CR Smith, I’m not particularly familiar with many installers in Scotland. Have you tried asking on a local Facebook “Spotted” group? You could also look at Trustpilot and Google reviews for the companies that have quoted you and see what other customers’ experiences have been like.

It’s also worth asking family, friends, work colleagues or people in the local community if they’ve had windows replaced recently. Find out who they used, whether the company turned up when they said they would, whether the installation was done well, the quality of the products, whether they felt the price was reasonable, and importantly, whether any aftercare issues were dealt with properly.

Smaller local companies can often be more customer focused because they rely heavily on word of mouth and good reviews to keep the work coming in. They also generally have lower overheads, so they can often be considerably cheaper than the big companies with the flashy vans and huge advertising budgets.

That said, if a company tells you they can start the day after tomorrow, I’d probably be a little cautious. Obviously, they’d still need to measure up, order the windows and glass, manufacture everything, etc., so I don’t mean literally that they could install them immediately but you know what I mean. If a company is telling you they have a three month lead time, it suggests they’re busy, and usually there’s a reason a company is busy!

£8350 for 10 windows is decent. The £17k quote is wild. I'd look for local firms with good reviews. Avoid the big national ones, they overcharge. Also check Checkatrade for reviews. Make sure they're FENSA registered. And get everything in writing.
