Halogen is more efficient than a normal light bulb in lumens per watt.

It's also the most versatile lamp on the market.

Low energy lighting obvioulsy prioritises using less energy to light a room. Halogen doesn't, and as a result, it actually does a good job.

It acheives full brightness instantly, it can be dimmed, it is a nice type of light, and it looks good.
 
Very true, another issue is that I dont want anything too big in the ceiling and the CFLS are 70mm min and cant be dimmed. Other larger ones can be.
