We are half way through putting in a new downstairs cloakroom with a loo and a corner basin (with vanity unit to cover up pipework). The waste/soilpipe from the loo will run under the floorboards across the kitchen and then out under the back door to join to the existing soil pipe run.

Can we run the waste from the basin under the floorboards and join it into the waste/soilpipe as it goes across the kitchen - if so does the basin waste have to join at the top of the soilpipe or can it go in the side - just worried about possible backflow from the loo into the basin waste.

Hope that makes sense. Thanks for any advise. Gill

We want to join it under the floorboards on the horizontal run of wastepipe (that is on a slight slope to outside drain). This item is where the toilet connects to the wastepipe - so higher up.

We are trying to avoid having the basin waste running along the wall inside the cloakroom - as this is rather ugly and the cloakroom is already very narrow.

Any other suggestions/advice ?

Thanks, Gill

What about one of these? Not sure though if it would work with your layout.

You can connect a 32m waste pipe onto the toilet waste using a strap on boss but I would have the connection on the top which will probably be too high for your floorboards. Depending on the thickness of your walls, you could bury the basin waste in the wall and connect it to the toilet waste inside the vanity unit.

We might have enough room to go for the connection on the top of the waste/soilpipe ... is there no one way valve that you can put in the basin waste pipe to prevent any backflow from the main waste/soilpipe ?

Does that mean that we can connect the basin wastepipe to the horizontal waste/soilpipe on the side (rather than the top) as nothing can go up this valve from the waste/soil pipe to the basin waste ?

TBH, I don't know for sure. Maybe someone else can advise
