a roll of 25x4m dpm, if i want 4m x 4m for example, can i just unroll 4m then cut across or do i need to unroll all the roll. i assume its rolled in a way to allow cutting across the length required?

Correct. It's usually folded. along the length of the rolled dpm, first fold is from each side into the middle, gives you a 2 metre wide roll, then doubled over to give a 1 metre wide roll. So cut off your first 4 metre length and when it's fully opened up it'll be 4 X 4.
Don't forget your upstands and lapping onto dpc.

cheers, any advice on what to do when going into adjoining room, how do i ovelap from one room going through a doorway into next room?

hi, i meant when you do room one, will it not be folded up at the door where it has gone up the walls, therefore overlapping the second piece through the door way into new room. Is it just a case of run second sheet from second room to ist room through the door and tape as suggested

Correct. There's no reason why you need to do two rooms in one sheet.
If you have a wall across the threshold between rooms you surely will have a dpc in that wall?
