I googled this and I got mixed opinions. This looked like the best forum I found so thought I'd sign up and ask.

Basically I want to put a hangboard up above my door, something like this:

I drilled a pilot hole above the door with a hammer drill and it took ages and I wrecked a cheap drill bit.

I'm guessing it's lintel above the door so obviously the first question is, is it a good idea to drill into lintel above a door and hang from it? Last thing I want to have is structural damage to the apartment!

If not, I'll scrap the idea and think of something else. If it is a good idea, should I use a plywood backing or bolting this hangboard directly onto the wall is okay?

The masonry above a door is likely to be a weak spot and is unlikely to sustain repeated wrenches from a climber.

You may need to bolt something through the wall to gain success.

yeah, I was concerned about that. Drilling into it, it sounds like I'm hitting metal at points although switching between HSS and Masonry bits seem to have little effect.

I think I should rethink the idea since I don't want to damage the lintel and bring the upstairs neighbor down on me!

Maybe I can improvise something with this. No drilling required so it could work
