The pressure builds up in the main street.
When you come home from work probaly the same time as about a million other people they all fill up the kettle use the toilet, and so on.
So the pressure in the mains in the street is lower.
However the pressure builds up at night time because every body is in bed and not using the taps thus the the pressure increases. Unless you are supperstisious you might find this difficult to understand
Could be a pressure variation problem, but ceramic valves should be able to withstand that.
Do you live in a hard water area?
I had problems with a dripping hot water tap with ceramic valve. Took the valve out and cleaned the ceramic washer with a tooth brush and vinegar (or lemon juice) to dissolve the limescale. Cheaper than a new pair (only come in pairs!) of valve inserts at £20.
