I am re-building my drive gates and I've hit a snag.

Gate frames are built. But I forgot to offer up the hinge bracket to the post before starting work.

I was going to use 47x100 bolted to the existing concrete posts to take the gate brackets, but they are 55mm wide DOH!

Due to the width of the opening, I cannot use 70mm posts without planing something down.

What is my best move? Make a post out of a piece of 22x100 and 38x100 (making 60x100) - and may still have to shave a little off of the gates?

Or use 70mm posts and shave more off of the gates?

If I understand correctly, shave down the larger 70mm posts and minimise use of additional timber, or alternatively shave a little off each i.e. post and gate stile if it won’t compromise it’s structural strength
