Dry hip - tray and ventilation roll

We had roofers in to remove mortar and refit ridge and hip tiles using a dry ridge system. However, after they were done we noticed they have fitted the ventilation roll on top of the hip trays. This doesn't look particularly tidy, but also leaves a big open gap between the hip tray and the main tiles. All the instruction manuals I have seen online for dry ridge systems have the ventilation roll underneath any hip trays. We brought it up with the roofers but they are saying they have installed it correctly. Are we dealing with dishonest roofers or are there any circumstances where the ventilation roll is not put directly on top of the main tiles?

Ask the roofers to provide you with the manufacturer's installation guidance to support their statement that they have installed it correctly. You will have a long wait though.

Are the guys actually roofers or people that work on roofs? As with most trades, there's a difference. Any semi-competent person fitting these systems knows the membrane stuff goes on the tiles and is supposed to be pressed into the contours of the tiles.

Thanks for all the replies. I will try to push the roofers regarding the manufacturer's installation instructions. Yes, was through a well rated roofer on Checkatrade. If the roofers are not willing to rectify the problem, what are my options? Small claims court? I have of course already paid...

the grey replacement tiles are incorrect. the grey are Marley lulow plus, the actual original tiles are Redland 49.

Yes if you have a name and an address you have a claim.

First, give them a chance to rectify, say 7 or 10 days because of urgency of having a roof that's not water-tight.

Have the details ready to submit a claim on day 8 or 11. www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/web/mcol/welcome.

Your claim is for what you spent and what you will spend to put it right. You will need quotes to rectify, and details/report of why it is wrong - the manufacturer's instructions will do.
