I've mostly cleared the space for my loft conversion by moving or removing the old insulation.

I've swept and hoovered and swept and hoovered but 140 years of soot and dust sits on top of the laths and it's a nightmare to work with, Every time I move up there it kicks up some more dust and settles back where I've just hoovered. It's starting to get on my chest :(

My idea was to staple a membrane or foil insulation between the joists to try and keep the space a bit cleaner to work in ? Is this possible?

So over and between the joists before the new deck goes in ? Then chicken wire and wool insulation between the new joists before the chipboard goes down.

As long as I don't seal the foil barrier will it cause a problem with vapour / moisture ?

I did think about weed control membrane but it's not fire resistant ?

Ideas / comments welcome please

A dust stabiliser/sealer would do the job. There are silicate based ones that could be sprayed on with a hand sprayer. Just make sure it's an interior product.
