Was wandering if anyone knows of something good to use for this?

Needs to be waterproof after, in that I can sit in the car with wet shoes and the dyes not going to come off and then ill walk into someones house dying the carpets black lol

I think it's unlikely that you'll find anything to do this, because AFAIK car carpets tend to be made from completely artificial fibres and are self-coloured.

Can't you just buy some black car mats?

Plain colours will always show stains.

Hair dye might work, it won't come off most things.

Why not go to the scrappy and get a set of cheap carpets in the colour you want from a suitable donor?

tried it several years ago with black leather stain. It went horribly wrong and left a stain similar to oil on water. various shades of black/grey/blue/purple were all that we achieved.

interesting situation though as my cousin dropped a gallon can of indian ink on his bedroom carpet and that was successfully stained bright red but it was also very stiff. (sod's law)

might be worth trying a test sample.

An old car dealer trick which works on parcel shelves (sp?) might work for you here.

you simply spraypaint them with a spraypaint normally used on plastics.

stozzer beat me to it- you can successfully use a matt black spray paint on ur carpets- just take ur time and do very light applications until u get the desired effect.
