We have a house which has been rented out for nearly 3 years. During this time we've had E-ons central heating plan, costing £16 per month. At the start of the plan then sent an engineer to check the boiler was ok, which it was.
Last week our letting agent rang us to let us know the boiler has stopped working. I rang E-on and they arranged to visit the property and have a look at the boiler. Their engineer said the boiler was beyond repair and he issued a safety warning!
I then asked a plumber to visit to house and provide a quote for a new boiler. I got a phonecall last night from him saying the boiler should be fixed by E-on, and the faults they found are stupid.
Here are the faults:
1) Non regulation pipework fitted to boiler
2) Unknown wiring at the top of the boiler
3) Chip in flue pipe
Now, both 1 and 2 are absolute rubbish. Apparently the pipework he was referring to was standard when the boiler was fitted. The regulations changed after it was installed. The unknown wiring is for lighting and isn't on the boiler, it's above the cupboard the boiler is in. There is a chip in the flue, but the plumber said that's the only thing they should be charging for.
IF all the above issues were a problem, why didn't the original engineer pick on on them 3 years ago when he did the inspection? Are all E-on engineers different, and are they not all trained correctly.
I am really annoyed about this because I've spent over £500 on this boiler care with e-on, but they are failing to deliver the service. I'm also concerned because we have a tenant without heating and hot water.
I need to phone e-on again to get them back to the property, but not sure of the best way to deal with it. Any ideas on how to make them provide the service I paid for?
