[RF Lighting]

I bought a colour changing LED floodlight from a well known internet auction site.

I wasn't too bothered about build quality as I only bought it to pinch the RGB LED chip for a project I'm working on.

I was surprised to see just how well made the unit was....

Should not a BS1362 fuse be sand filled?

Genuine ones are. Also they have the fuse wire actually attached the the end caps.

These end caps appear to be going rusty which means they are probably some sort of ferrous material.

Not to mention that 13A is far too big for the size of flex.

I'll test the end caps tomorrow to see if they're magnetic and also measure the fuse wire with my callipers to see if it's actually 13A wire.

That would presumably require you to also work out what material the 'fuse wire'was made out of, wouldn't it? If all else fails, you'' have to get your welder out again

It would be interesting to load the wire to capacity or just beyond and see how it behaves.

Indeed so. Even if the wire is 'correct', I suspect that the sand which should be present would normally help to dissipate the heat - so, in the absence of sand, it might well get hotter than it should when 'fully loaded'.

Typical Chinese counterfeit rubbish lead with the sleeved earth pin and quite often have undersized wires, I think flameport set one on fire on his YouTube site!

I didn't spot that. The approval marks are counterfeit then.

Looks more like pale brown than gray for me. Also, you do realise you can buy DMX RGB LED controllers of the shelf.

Given that he has it 'in his hand', I would have though RF was in a much stronger position to tell us what the colours are than any photo can tell us!
