I learn't "Baa baa little sheep", as a nursery rhyme at school, whereas ma old man learn't "Baa baa black sheep".. Personally, in age old nursery rhymes, there's racism where none exist. Same as Robertsons "Golliwogs " on their jam jars. Was never perceived as racist until the likes of RH came along and saw blatant racism in marmalade jars, classroom nursery rhymes and even school equipment (aye I was taught using a chalkboard) FFS ye couldn't make it up.

Speaking of racism,, at work we now have a "Whiteboard." you know the ones that you use the drywipe markers with (even have one down the local for marking the darts scores on now) Why Can't I claim the term "Whiteboard." has racist connotations, like the word "Blackboard" supposedly had????


Edit, speaking again of racism, I see a Tory candidate in Essex has resigned after re-tweeting "Islam is the religion of rape" following the arrest of 4 Muslim men for the rape of a 14 yr old girl. In a statement David Bishop "apologised "for the real offence caused"... Sorry Mr Bishop , the real offence here is the bloody rape of a 14 yr old girl, for which no apology is necessary. Such is the way our thinking is being subverted by these left wing do gooders, who are more offended by someone's tweets than rape.

give it a few more years and no doubt you will be able to,when WE become a minority.as i said before on here in a vote the majority allegedly wins,but when it comes to real life the minority actually rules.

I can imagine a time in the not-too-distant future when it will be very difficult to hold a meaningful conversation without being accused of offensive language.

Perhaps the government will issue a handbook of 'permissible language'. Of course, it would need updating every week.

I think the solution, if we can use "solution" as a way of describing the removal of offensive terms from everyday language, nursery ryhmes, etc was caused by the problem of racism being so endemic in our society.
The "solution" was for the govenment, and other authorities to remove those offensive terms.

But, if racism had not been so endemic and rampant, there would have been no need to legislate.

So instead of blaming the removal of words from rhymes, blame the real culpits, the racists.

I accept that I grew up using the offensive words in rhymes and I didn't understand the origin of them. But the origin, in some cases, was there.

Obviously, blackboard, whiteboard, black sheep, etc do not have, and have never had racist connotations.

But,
no racism = no need for legislation = no need for removal of potentially offensive words.

So in future, instead of blaming the changing of rhymes, the national debt, the price of tobacco, the sickness of your dog, the loss of your benefits , etc, etc on immigration, look in the mirror and see the true cause.

BTW,
a) I suspect that black sheep was only re-termed because of the potential connotations with black, in this instance, meaning anything negative, rather than any historical racial slur. The same may be true for blackboard, etc, although there has never been any negative connotations associated with blackboard. Additionally, there have been times when a black sheep was seen as a good omen.
b) I suspect that if you asked any teacher to use a blackboard and chalk again instead of whiteboards, they'd probably laugh at you. Although I suspect chalk is no way as dusty as it used to be. Although the board rubbers were useful for attracting the attention of misbehaving pupils.
c) I assume that tory candidate was whitespirit. He's always using the acronym ROP. Or was he the UKIP candidate?

If he thought we were misbehaving, he would launch bits of chalk and board rubbers in our direction!

RH, are you on drugs or what!!
In a few days I'm going to be 61, I've worked bloody hard most of my life since leaving school in 69 when I was 16yrs old, just over a year ago I was driving back to Bristol and the agency rang and said DHL, Jaguar Land Rover contract didn't want me the following day after working four months for them..
So the next day I get dressed and phone the agency and still they have no work for me, a little later my mate calls and says, the run I was doing from Avonmouth to Llanelli to Birmingham back to Avonmouth was being done by a Polish driver working £2ph less than me, which the employment agency was picketing the difference..

Now apparently you're telling me to look in the mirror, its my fault????

I think its time you woke up and smell the coffee, not hide behind some fictitious name claiming to live in France or somewhere, do you live in the real world, have you ever had a full time job, do you sit in front of a computer all day watching the rest of us try and earn a living while you scam off the state?
