I have an Ei141 smoke detector alarm. Trying to slide it back after removing and replacing battery. It is now stuck there. Not sliding into place. Not sliding back out. Cannot use any more force as it feels like it will break. HELP!

Given it’s only got about 15 months left of useful life bite the bullet and use more force.

It looks like the lugs are not lined up properly.
I suspect that your step ladder was not tall enough.
Try a screwdriver at the point shown on the smoke alarm and use your, erm, other two hands to wiggle it back to remove it. Then make sure it is flat to the base when you push it back on.
I guess you were replacing the 9v backup battery.
I replaced a battery for a client... it kept chirping after. I used a cheap Kodak battery. I then noticed that they only recommend two brands. I fitted one of the recommended brands, Duracell and it was fine.

If you're renting then speak to the landlord, it is your responsibility to test it frequently and change the battery, but the landlord's responsibility if it's defective or likely to cause damage to the unit/ceiling if there's a problem opening it to simply change a battery.
Surely its down to the landlord to fix the original problem

Yes never use cheap batteries on alarms
As u say probably insert screwdriver push back .Never had this happen on aico yet fitted hundreds
Oh and if it needs replacing make sure your landlord gets one fitted with the lithium battery - that way it won't need touching over its 10 year life
Only time I’ve seen this happen on one of these alarms is when …a screw was put into the plasterboard without a plug …it came loose and jammed the smoke head from sliding out …
