Hi

I am in the process of building new pillars at end of my drive and hope to install electric gates.

I will have an electrician wire up 2 lanterns on the pillars, I have to track the tarmac in couple of places would it be better having the electrician supply the electric for the gates at this stage?

I want to install the type of electric in the ground for gate opening.

Has anyone done this before?

Thanks

It is a very specialist job, there have been deaths due to electric gates even when installed to the manufacturers instructions, and there have been some very large fines dished out, so most electricians will sub contract that type of work to a specialist, which means it becomes rather expensive, in real terms today most electric gates are operated by a security guard who can manually monitor what is going on.

Clearly sitting in your car in front of the gate watching it open is not a problem, but driving off while it closes is, so each installation is different, so you need to find the installer first, and let him design the pillars and how the gates will work, once the pillar is built, then it's a bit late.
