Hey Guys,

I've just fitted a new electric oven at home, i biult a unit for it, no problems. But my qusetion is: Can i just put a plug on the end and pug it in to a 4 gang extensionlead with my fridge etc... or does it need it's own 'cooker socket'???

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

What power rating is the oven?

I suspect you will probably overload the extension lead and blow the 13A fuse in the plug top. What are the “etc” appliances plugged in with the fridge already?

Thanks for your reply, i haven't got all the specs in front of me but its a 13a not a 30a. The other appliances are fridge, frezzer and tumble dryer that rarely gets used. I plugged it in to the extension last night and left it running on full tilt for about an hour and a half. It all worked fine i just want to check it's safe as i only have a limited knowledge of electrics.

Tanks again,

Matt

Basically a 13A 4 gang extension lead will not allow you to overload it. However, what you are possibly intending to do probably will. On and off at least!

Although the extension lead 13A fuse has not blown even after an hour and a half or so, I suspect that sooner or later it probably will. Even if it doesn’t I’m sure that some kind of deterioration to the socket, the plug top, and/or its associated parts over a period of time will be caused. This is because the 13Amp fuse in the plug top can carry over its ratted current, dependent on the amount of current, for some time before its destruction.

Of course I could be talking complete B*****s. Knowing the kW rating of each appliance would help.

However, is it not possible to split this load? i.e. supply the fridge and freezer on another extension from somewhere else in the room possibly?

Superb, thank you very much!

I'll plug it in somewhere else.

Thanks again!

Matt
