Hi,

Bare with me as I am pretty clueless with anything DIY related.

Anyway I have an electric shower in my house which is a minimum of 5 years old. In the last year it has started to lose heat after a minute or so. I wait another minute and it goes hot again and the cycle continues. I have seen posts on the web suggesting replacing the shower head due to limescale. Is it more likely my unit has decided to give up on me and I need to replace it.

Cheers

If you are that clueles then I would suggest you call in someone who isn't.

It was intended to be helpful. Do you think you should be attempting to carry out repairs or instalation of electrical appliances when you do not have the first idea what to do?If you think you can do something safely then that is a different matter, but that was not the impression you gave.

well the point being even someone as clueless as myself can attempt to remove limescale from a shower head. I was asking the question whether this really was likely to resolve my problem with heat!!!

I need to check I'm on the right site!!!

Sounds more likely to be a thermostat than just a head blocked by scale. Clean the head using a plastic bag slightly filled with diluted vineger - dip the head in the bag and leave overnight. Triton are quite good customer service wise in my experience, so I would tend to call them up.

Could be that the element is so scaled up that it overheats and the over-temp stat pops. Then it resets when it cools down and off you go again.

Buy a new shower. 5 years is a good innings for an electric shower IMO. I wouldnt bother trying to repair it anyway.
