Hi all,

Considering buying a fixer-upper not far from our current home. Got a structural report - based on the report it appears most of what the house needs appears to be cosmetic.

However the electrics looks very dated - probably hasn't been worked on since the house was built in the mid 1970's. Took a picture of the fuse box, is it likely to be just a matter of replacing this with a trip box? Or is it likely electrics needs more work?

You would need an electrical report on the existing installation, and that would flag up most issues concerning the system as it stands. Then any remedial work required to bring it up to date or safe can be recommended.

What the hell are those round things

Diazed "bottle" fuses. Popular in Europe, including ireland

Where as us brits had re-wireable and cartridge types

Perhaps this would be better in electrics outside of the uk?
