Electrics tripping

Under the floor.

Looks like the cable had a nick in it (there was a small flap of plastic that I pulled off).

Can only assume it had been like that since it was installed but I would have thought it would have given trouble before now?
 
But where in relation to floorboards, joists, door frames, pipes, etc?

No idea. I didn't take the floor up because it's tiled I just pulled the cable out. The amount of cable that was under there was quite a bit more than the distance it had to travel so I don't think it was tight to the joists.
