can i wire a power shower up to a light circuit or a socket circuit from the main fuse box, if i put it on its own switch with a fuse in it, any help would be appriciated. thank you

In theory: yes you could wire a power shower to a lighting circuit via a 3A FCU, subject to the existing load on that lighting circuit - but it isn't really the 'done thing'......

Far better to wire it via a FCU on the socket circuit. And preferably (depending on the pump's location), with an RCD in circuit.

What do the shower instructions say?

This is notifiable work.

Depends on pumps location, if it's outside the bathroom in the airing cupboard then it wouldn't be in a special location.

What's the watt rating of the pump, what is the total wattage of all lamps being on on the circuit ?

Add those figures up divide by 230v and you have the max demand of the circuit in amps.
Compare that figure with the fuse size (6 amp?) at the CU.

For fused spurs you can get 1,2,3 amp fuses- if you do take power from the lighting circuit to a fused spur (never a plug socket!) fuse it as low as you can get away with.

Add those figures [ watts ] up divide by 230v and you have the max demand of the circuit in amps.

that is the maximum demand when the supply is at 230 volts.

Multiply that amperage by 1.126 ( or add 1/8 ) to find the current that will flow when the mains supply voltage comes in at the permitted maximum of 259 volts and all the loads are switched on.
