how do you find out what size cable i would need if i have to run a swa about 40m from the meter box to the cu? The person im working with has ordered 16mm 3 core but i thought it would need 25mm 3 core as the mains board has about 18 circuits on it.

is there an easy calculation to help me work this out?

18 circuits: boy that's huge!

Or is it small?

What is the design current?

18 lighting circuits or 18 power circuits or 18 submains to flats?

Need more info!!!

Just used TLC's cable calculator.

It reckons your maximum is 91A on 16mm2 SWA XLPE @40m.

Still, if you're running that far, (assuming domestic) you'll be putting an 80A submain in?
