but this whole topic is a waste, since to electricaly lock two bathroom doors in a domestic house is cost prohibitve

not if you make up your own circuit with 2 mag locks, a transformer, and the pull switch idea, and an indicator light. £60 each for mag locks, everything else maybe £20? £140. A lot, but a cool idea, a novel concept for your guests! Emergency switch somewhere hidden (near consumer unit) in case it goes horribly, horribly wrong!!!
