what kind of emergency light fittings should be used in an area were there are frequent power cuts about twice a day (abroad) and will not effect the light fittings life maintsined or non maintained
I'm not aware of any fittings that are designed to be used as frequently as that. If you buy a good quality EM light then I wouldn't expect it to be a major problem, especially the small bulkhead-style fittings - these tend to use NiCd batteries, which like to see a bit of discharge now and then rather than being left on trickle all the time.
A central battery system is likely to be better than individual fittings, as it can have significantly higher capacity, and only 1 set of batteries to maintain/replace.
If you get one with an inverter, you can use normal light fittings, which are either powered from the mains, or the battery/inverter unit when the power fails.
